Hanamachi

Makiko had her Erikae, or debut as a Geiko. She dressed in her most formal attire and presented herself to the okiya (geisha house), ochaya (tea house), and shops of Gion Kobu to thank everyone for their support.

Hanamachi literally translates as 'flower town' and is a word used for the geisha districts. This is a backstreet of Makiko's hanamachi, Gion Kobu, with beautiful paved streets instead of asphalt. The rattan blinds are a trademark of the Kyoto hanamachi.
