I recently took a family vacation to Japan, in which we visited Tokyo and Kyoto. On one of the days I spent in Kyoto, I saw the Kamogawa Odori with my mother. She had never seen any of the annual performances held by the hanamachi/kagai/geisha districts before, so I was hoping this one would be especially good. I didn't have to worry though, the Kamogawa Odori is, in my opinion, the best out of all of the Odori, and this one was just spectacular.
I only took pictures during the finale, which always has a May theme. The last time I saw it, they were all carrying long irises, but this year it was hanagasa, or flower hats.
Momifuku is a first-year maiko, so she wears a special hair ornament with dangling silk flowers. Ichiraku is a first year geiko, so, while it can't be seen here, she too has a special feature in her hairstyle that marks her recent transition. That feature can be seen in this photo [link]
