Revisited: Komomo

I was looking through my pictures from my stay in Japan, and I thought I should post some of the images I never used.

It is the beginning of April, and to me that means only one thing... Odori! The Kitano, Kyo, and Miyako Odori of the respective Kamishichiken, Miyagawacho, and Gion Kobu geisha districts all take place during this time. Out of all of these, I enjoyed the Kyo Odori the most.

Seeing as how Miyagawacho is my favorite geisha district, I have many favorites from among the many talented women there. But one of my top favorite geiko there is Komomo, "little peach", who wrote a book about the interesting life she has lead already despite her young age. By the time I took my picture, she has already lived in Mexico and China, speaks Chinese, and had been a maiko for five years. Komomo wants to study Japanese culture and tradition, which is why she joined the ranks of Miyagawacho. She traveled to New York to promote her book, and has done her best to teach people about geiko in general but also about Miyagawacho. I would love to meet her someday.
